Many of Johann's descendants were men of high esteem. His son, Johann Cast
olus Hunn, was adminstrator of the monastery at Maulbronn. His grandson, A
gidius Hunnius, born 1550, died 1603, was superintendent at Wittenberg, a
nd two of his great grandsons, Nicolaus Hunnius, born 1585, Dean at Lubec
k, and Agidius Hunnius, born 1594, Dean at Altenburg, brought the name Hun
nius great respect during the 16th and 17th centuries. Agidius Hunnius, bo
rn 1550, who Latinized the name Hunn, was adjudged unaimously, by his cont
emporaries, third place in theology after Martin Luther. The numerous a
nd important theological works of his son, Niclaus Hunnius, served for ov
er a century as the foundation of the scriptural teaching and religious kn
owledge of the Luthern Church.
