JOHANN GEORG WOLFHARDT, (No. 1, page 1330), father of Anna Katharina Wolfh
ardt Schwab, was born at the castle and fortress of Steinsberg, 31 Decemb
er 1639, during the Thirty Years War, and was the son of Georg Johann Wolf
hardt and Anna Burckhardt. In 1657 he married ANNA, the daughter of CONR
AD HAAGEN, a citizen of Enzlingen bei Zurich, Switzerland, by whom he h
ad five children: Alexander, Agathe, Anna Katharina who married Jost Schwa
b, Georg Heinrich, and Maria Catharina. Anna Haagen Wolfhardt died 14 Ju
ly 1673. Johann Georg Wolfhardt, then, mar ried Maria Spleiss, the daught
er of Johan Jacob Spleiss of Schafhausen in Switzerland. They had three da
ughters: Anna Maria, born 1677; Eleanore Esther, born 1679; and Juliana Ma
rgaretha, born 1681.

TUEBINGEN

Houses along the Neckar River and the old Town Wall which date back to t
he l3th century.

The University was founded in 1477. Three generations of the RENZ family s
tudied and received degrees here in the 1500s. Two generations of the WOLF
HARDT family attended and received degrees in 1500-1605. Johann Wolfhar
dt received a scholarship and (as we have read) any of his descendants a
re now eligible to attend the University.
During the time of their attendance, the treaty of Tuebingen was written w
hich for the first time in Continental Europe lists basic human rights a
nd in the ,,Magna Carta" of the time. By 1547 Tuebingen had achieved world
wide scholarly renown.
